Tesla vehicles are different from traditional vehicles in more ways than just being electric. Our body construction, high-strength materials, cameras, sensors, paint finishes, and panel designs can make collision and cosmetic repairs more complicated than they first appear.
One of the biggest misconceptions after damaging a Tesla is that the affected panel automatically needs to be replaced.
Depending on the location and severity of the damage, Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) may be an option. PDR uses specialized tools and techniques to manipulate damaged metal back toward its original shape without performing a traditional body-and-paint repair.
For smaller dents where the factory paint is still intact, PDR can sometimes preserve the original finish while reducing repair time and cost. More severe damage may require conventional metal repair, body filler, refinishing, or panel replacement.
Send photos of your damageRear quarter-panel damage is one of the repairs Tesla owners frequently contact us about.
What looks like a simple dent from the outside can become a much larger repair once replacement procedures, adjacent panels, refinishing, blending, materials, disassembly, and reassembly are considered.
That doesn't necessarily mean replacement is always the only option. When appropriate, we evaluate whether the damaged panel may be repairable through PDR, metalwork, or a combination of techniques before considering more invasive replacement procedures.
"Our goal is to give the customer a clear understanding of the available options and the expected finish of each option."
Tesla bumpers commonly suffer damage from parking incidents, garage walls, road debris, and minor collisions. Depending on the damage, a bumper may be repairable rather than replaced.
A typical repair can involve:
Cracked, torn, severely distorted, or otherwise compromised bumper covers may require additional repair or replacement.
Tesla paint can be challenging to match, particularly certain metallic and multi-stage finishes.
No two vehicles age exactly the same.
How flakes lay changes the look.
Method affects the final finish.
Blending may be recommended.
A great option when the paint is intact and the metal can be accessed and manipulated appropriately. It can preserve the factory finish and often reduce time and cost.
May be necessary for deep creases, stretched metal, damaged paint, cracks, previous repairs, or damage that cannot reasonably be corrected through PDR.
There isn't one repair method that's right for every Tesla. In some situations, we can also discuss different repair levels based on your expectations and budget โ and we believe those expectations should be discussed before the repair begins.
Certain repairs may also qualify for mobile service. Instead of leaving your Tesla at a body shop for an extended period, some PDR and cosmetic repairs can potentially be performed at your home or another suitable location.
Mobile service depends on the type of damage, access to the damaged area, weather, workspace, lighting, and the repair method required.
If your Tesla has a dent, scrape, bumper injury, door damage, or quarter-panel damage, send EZ Auto Body clear photos of the affected area. We can evaluate the visible damage and discuss possible repair options before scheduling an in-person inspection.
Photos and visual estimates are preliminary. Additional damage may be discovered after disassembly or once repairs begin.
